Ministry of the Russian Federation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic submitted to the Government the draft decree of the President of Russia “On the fundamentals of state policy in the Arctic and national security until 2035”. This document defines the national interests of Russia in the Arctic and the main directions of their implementation. The draft decree is a part of the system of documents of the new Arctic strategy. They also include a federal law on the special economic regime of the Arctic zone, a strategy that defines the goals, objectives, mechanisms and stages of development of the Arctic zone of Russia until 2035, and a new state program that will contain special mechanisms for the development of the Arctic zone and their financial support.
It should be reminded, that Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed to develop a strategy for the development of the Arctic zone of Russia until 2035. He gave a corresponding order following the results of the meeting with the members of the Government of the Russian Federation held on February 27, 2019.
In February 2019, Vladimir Putin signed a decree transferring the functions for the formulation and implementation of the state policy and regulatory framework for the socioeconomic development of the Arctic to the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and renamed it the Ministry for the Development of the Russian Far East and Arctic.
